1. Mie Atep
If you come to this stall, you will most probably meet the owner, Mrs Atep. Has opened the noodle stall since 1973, she herself is still cooking the special Mie Belitong until today. Being an obligatory place to eat for tourist in Belitong, you can see on the wall many photos of visitors who stopped by. Also hanged there, the picture of Megawati Soekarnoputri (former Indonesia President) and several celebrities from the country.
Actually, noodle used to make Mie Belitong is an ordinary noodle which can be bought at the market. One thing that makes this dish special, however, is its brownish gravy. Mie Belitong gravy is made of selected fresh shrimp boiled for several hours, with addition of palm sugar to create the color. The tempting aroma comes from some selected spices, such as candlenut, shallots, galanga, etc. In addition, this noodle is served with various toppings, such as fried tofu, bean sprouts, cucumber, boiled potato, boiled egg, and fried emping (melinjo nut cracker). The usage of those toppings represents the culinary culture of Chinese immigrants, who came in big waves in the 16th century to work in Belitong mining.
To enjoy this mouth-watering noodle, one should not dig too dip into the pocket, since the price is quite cheap (IDR 15k). But it is best to prepare more money, since usually only one portion would not be satisfying enough.

2. Bakmi Kaichai
Located in a small alley somewhere near Veteran Dalam Street, at the beginning this noodle stall did not look like a good place to eat at all. Despite the secluded location, this place is actually where the local eat their breakfast. When you enter the stall, you will know why this noodle could be one of the most crowded ones in Belitong.
The fragrant aroma comes from the boiling noodle suddenly hit my nose when I was looking around to find an empty seat. After a short time, they served the noodle. I saw a perfect harmony in my bowl, moist noodle with tempting minced pork topping (IDR 25K). The noodle itself is a bit too soft, but what I really like from Bakmi Kaichai is its stuffed tofu (IDR 10K). Fried soft tofu stuffed with a mixed of pork meat and shrimp, it is a delicate dish you can’t enjoy everyday!

This wallet friendly place serves perfect noodle (IDR 25K). Chewy and moist, with fragrant pork meat topping. Don’t forget to add some chili sauce if you like spicy, this will boost extra flavor to the noodle. If you order a bowl of noodle, you will also get a portion of very nice textured fishball soup. 4. Yammian Fanyung
This noodle stall is situated a bit further downtown, but many people will not mind the extra miles to get there. Especially, because it is still open at night, ideal for night owls 🙂
Yammian Fanyung is more like bangka style noodle, with thick soy sauce which gives the noodle darker color and bolder taste. The noodle (IDR 25K) itself is a bit hard and chewy, with sweet taste because of the fish and pork topping. For distinctive experience, this one is surely a must try.
